On this day in January, 2020, we welcome a new decade and celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Manhattan Arts International’s online art gallery. This is the perfect time for presenting an online exhibition titled “New Beginnings” by Artist Members. For this special presentation we invited all members of Manhattan Arts International to submit one work of art they felt represented the meaning of “New Beginnings” and an accompanying statement.
As you will see, this is a beautiful and inspirational showcase of art by several of our members who agreed to participate. It reflects the artistic excellence and diversity of our members and gives us the opportunity to get to know more about them.
The artist members’ names will take you to their individual pages where you can view more of their artwork and read about their creative vision and art career achievements. Please visit the artists’ websites and contact the artists directly to purchase their artwork. Visit the Online Art Gallery to see Art by all members.

Nancy Reyner
Sea, Mist & Birds, acrylic on panel, 44″ x 36″.
“I rarely hold onto paintings now. As they finish they get whisked off for sale to my gallery representation. But this one surprised me. Prior to this I painted spaces and places with minimal detail. Adding the birds, something definable, was out of character for me, but I went along with the feeling, creating something different and new. I like that! And this new beginning encouraged another new beginning as I decided to keep it! This painting now hangs in my studio for inspiration.”
Leanne Fink
Zero, oil on linen, 14″ x 18″.
“One of my favorite movies is ‘The Producers’, an irreverent comedy made in 1967, starring Gene Wilder and Zero Mostel. I recalled the gestures and poses of the characters silhouetted against the white water of the rushing fountain. They were celebrating a new project in the story. This was my inspiration. I worked from my thoughts and memories in broad, loose strokes to express feelings of elation and joy which can mean many things to many viewers.”
Dick and Rosanne
Untitled photograph, size varies.
“As nature photographers we closely monitor activities in our garden. Spring always brings the feeling of rebirth as old friends emerge from their winter slumber. Throughout the summer we follow the new beginnings of plants, flowers and their attendant insects. Milkweed flowers are favored by a wide variety of insects but, unfortunately, there are fewer varieties every year. This photo is a pattern of milkweed leaves and buds, about to open to the possibilities of what will come.”
Mary Mirabal
Desert Wild Flowers, oil and wax on panel, 12″ x 12″.
“This painting fits the New Beginnings theme as this was one of the first pieces of art I painted in oil and cold wax while in Santa Fe the summer of 2019. I normally paint in acrylics in my Florida home studio, but found using oils in New Mexico more forgiving. This new medium challenges me and I love learning new ways to create art. It opens up a whole new direction to express my love of the Northern New Mexico landscape that inspires my art.”
Barbara Brown
Honeysuckle/Hazel Dance, oil on canvas, 14″ x 18″.
“The New Beginning of Springtime… Imagine the forest awakening after its long winter slumber, feel a new round of life stirring, sap rising, leaves budding and unfurling. Hear the birds, as they return and sing for their mates, listen as the frogs emerge and exuberantly proclaim their excitement for the new year. Smell the joy of the fresh new sweet and spicy Spring flowers. Here the Honeysuckle swirlingly shows itself off as a herald of warmth to come!”
Peter N. Van Giesen
Winter West Wind Mindfulness, acrylic paint on canvas, 11″ x 14″
“When the overnight storm passes and the drama of daybreak displays the glory of a new day, I remember that all things are new every day. I breathe in life and grateful to continue my artistic journey.”
Andrea Robinson
Butterfly Dream, ink, graphite, re-purposed plastic; 12″ x 12”.
“Keeping up to date with the latest research and articles on our environment along with promoting environmental education is something that is important to me. “Butterfly Dream” depicts a young boy reading about nature. Learning brings awareness and a feeling of responsibility. This in turn can lead to positive behaviors. I hope that this artwork inspires thinking and new behaviors.”
