Celebrating Nature and Giving It A Voice
Andrea Robinson, andrearobinson.co.nz, is an artist living in New Zealand. Her paintings celebrate nature, and her collections include floral delights, whimsical depictions of birds, captivating images of wildlife, and visual narratives on environmental issues. Creating artwork is the language Andrea uses to tell her story, to celebrate and protect nature, and to generate a sense of wellbeing, positivity, hope, and joy.

Andrea’s paintings are created from the heart, and she says that the intent behind her work is to shine a light on nature and to connect with people in a way that makes them feel inspired, uplifted, and happy.
She uses color, symbols and visual narratives to communicate with viewers, and there is a narrative or poem behind each work. She states: “the words form during the painting process, weaving their way between my thoughts and the brush. The words add a special element to each piece.”
Spring Fling, oil on board, 23” round.
Combining her realistic training with a stylized technique, Andrea’s paintings delve into the realms of imagination. She is captivated by the beauty in nature, and in her floral pieces, she often places her favorite flowers together to make a harmonious melody of color. These luscious creations are full of exuberance with some paintings forming a floral tapestry, while other paintings show individual blooms dancing in the air to symbolize the spreading of hope and happiness to everything they touch.
She also loves painting birds, and her collections feature playful depictions full of whimsy as well as paintings that give a voice to endangered species. She uses color and visual metaphors to inject a sense of mystery, communicate poignant messages of protection, and to give viewers a sense of personal connection to the birds.

To communicate her messages, Andrea applies her many skills in a wide variety of mediums, techniques, and styles. She is equally adept at capturing what she observes in our natural environment as she is creating works that reflect her vivid imagination. With both approaches and superb use of color and balance, she creates worlds of beauty and activism, which stimulate interest and appreciation, and ignite important cultural and environmental conversations.
Andrea believes working in harmony with the environment is important. In addition to using only good quality materials which last longer, she knows that her clients can get anywhere from 75 – 200 years from their investment. She also uses medium gel with her oil paints as it allows her to wash out her brushes in water.

As she explains, “In this throw-away society I think it is important that our choices are sustainable both in how we work and what we purchase.”
