Josephine’s artistic prowess transcends mere representation. She often imbues her art with poetic symbolism from fairytales, folklore and allegories. Her diverse stylistic oeuvre contains elements from classical realism, magic realism, post impressionism, cubism, abstraction and contemporary innovation.
Her lively, tactile, brushstrokes in different hues animate her scene with visceral expression. Josephine was born in Ukraine and relocated to Germany four years ago due to the war. Not surprisingly, many of her paintings express the trials and tribulations of human survival, endurance, resilience and renewal. Her website portfolio includes art created during and after the war.
Josephine says it best: “Each image carries a story about what remains within us after displacement, loss, and new beginnings.” Propelled by her personal history and insight she also invites us to interpret her artwork from our own personal perspective.
