Details About Articles & Interviews About Women Artists
“Hilma af Klint: Revolutionary Woman Artist of the 20th Century”
This article was written by artist Tracy Ellyn. It emphasizes Hilma af Klint’s abstract works of art predate art by Kandinsky, Mondrian, Kupka, and Malevich, who have been inaccurately considered the pioneers of abstraction. Hilma began working in an abstract mode as early as 1906. Tracy’s article was written in concurrence with Hilma’s long overdue exhibition at the Guggenheim Museum, NYC, NY, in 2019.

“#ThemToo: Women Artists Who Helped to Break the Barriers”
In this article by Tracy Ellyn, you’ll find several of your favorite women artists. Tracy states, “Without a doubt, throughout the history of art, women artists have been on equal par with men as far as talent. They were, however, forbidden to study art, or any subject for that matter, and were not permitted to belong to the art salons or study under male artists.”
“Interview With Artist Aneka Ingold”

“Interview with Christina Michalopoulou Winner of HerStory 2021 Outstanding Woman Artist Achievement Award”
Christina Michalopoulou, shown above, is a contemporary artist living and working in Thessaloniki, Greece. She is known for painting figurative, photorealistic human figures and parts of the body in addition to contemporary abstraction. She has participated in many international Art Fairs and gallery exhibitions and many of her artworks can be found in private collections throughout Europe. Her many honors and accolades include being chosen as a Barcelona International Big Awards 2020 Finalist. In this interview she states, “My art is figurative and deeply feminine, created upon real people and real life stories. The emotional load is not easy to handle when producing these artworks, whether they are built on my story or somebody other’s. I always try to narrate a story through the lines of a body, through a scar, a wounded skin, a sight or a touch. At the beginning of every painting I fall in love with the story, the body, the skin, the feeling, I get deep into it and when it comes to an end I always feel exhausted and empty. It’ s an addiction.”
“Interview with Artist Valerie Patterson”
It is an honor to share this interview I conducted with artist Valerie Patterson. She stands out among her peers as an artist who expresses an acute sensitivity to the human condition with unerring poignancy and technical prowess. Her diverse portfolio and admirable emotional range is fueled by her tenacity to confront social and political issues. Her profound images wake us up from our bouts of complacency and apathetic slumber. In this interview she comments about one of her paintings “Living With The Legend” which was inspired by her interpretation of some mother/daughter relationships. She wrote, “The giant mother’s shoes/feet symbolize the huge impact the mother has on her daughter and how overwhelming it can feel. The multiple images of the daughter symbolize the passage of time. She repeatedly circles in an attempt to understand her mother’s positive and negative influence on, and power over, her life.”
“Interview with Lisa Cooper, Director, Elisa Contemporary Art”

It represents a portfolio of emerging through mid-career contemporary artists, and are those “exploring and testing the boundaries of various media, techniques, materials and ideas about humanity, nature and our world.”

Mott Children’s and Women’s Hospital of the University of MI; and Eastern Michigan University; among others. The artist received a BFA and MA in Studio Art, both from Eastern Michigan University. When asked What advice would you like to offer fellow women artists? She wrote, “One of my professors was asked what type of art sells? As in, landscapes, portraits, abstract, etc? He replied “None of it!” And yet, he had continuous portrait commissions and other art projects. He woke at four a.m. every morning to do his art. Keep at it, love it, and enjoy it, because it is you.”

Applying for HerStory seemed like a serendipitous opportunity to reach out to you and like-minded artists in the organization.”
“Bren Sibilsky Won the Renee Phillips Special Honor Award”
Bren Sibilsky is an award-winning artist from Wisconsin who has attracted many collectors from North America and Europe. She has won multiple awards in sculpture, painting and drawing. She is also an instructor/founder of the Algoma Atelier of Sculpture and Art. When a work of art emanates a formidable presence as does “Woman of Prophesy”, one becomes totally immersed in its power and potentiality. “Woman of Prophesy” is an awe-inspiring spiritual work of art that summons our focused introspection and awareness. She is a supreme symbol of innate wisdom, enlightenment and rebirth. For these reasons and more, I did not hesitate to give it my Special Honor Award.
When Bren submitted her entry “Woman of Prophesy” she shared these words: “Follow your heart and eyes said the spiritual leader. So with inner eyes, I looked into my heart and found fear, as a precarious egg rolled down a feather. A prophetic woman appeared, understanding the egg would roll and break, assured me it is part of creation, explaining what is inside must be revealed. Trust the creative force of beginnings.”
