Although Karen refers to herself as a self-taught artist her approach to creating art is proficient and sophisticated. Her sources of inspiration include architecture, human experiences, and the different cultures she has encountered during her travels. We also observe Rothko’s influence and the elements of abstract expressionism in her paintings. Karen states, “Using color, movement, and light, I recreate the world around me.”

Karen’s interest in art began at a young age; however, she decided to pursue her education in medicine. For more than 20 years she was a nurse caring for the underserved patient population and participated in medical mission trips worldwide.
In 2017, Karen returned to painting. She eloquently expresses the emotional challenges she has confronted personally and experiences she has had in her global travels. She states, “I strive to covey the beauty and struggles I have seen along the way.”
