I absolutely love the “HerStory” exhibition. As a Board Member of the New York Society of Women Artists I have been encouraging all our members to make their personal statements – to go on record for who they are and what they are about from their own mouths. Not all of us will be assigned biographers post mortem…so it is important to leave some accurate records. Your effort is great as part of this. When you open the next “HerStory” opportunity, please keep me in mind. I would love to be part of this exceptional presentation. ~ Leah Poller, Art Alliance Inc., NY NY
This show is such an admirable project, I want to offer my congratulations to you and your team on putting it together! Women in the art world are still very underrepresented and this show addresses that inequality. Much of the work in the exhibition is oriented around feminist issues that pose the question of women’s role in society. In addition, there is an interesting range of emotional spheres that emerge from women’s friendships and children, to body image representations coupled with depictions of isolation and anxiety. I found the show to be refreshingly varied. ~ Joanne Carson, artist whose work can be found in the collections of the Brooklyn Museum of Art, Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago, and many others. “HerStory 2022” is gorgeous, powerful, and moving! While the subject matter and mediums are very different, there is an underlying thread that goes through all of them — a sublime beauty, a feeling of peace, and a sense of focus which I think may have come from the seclusion during the pandemic. The works portray a quiet, introspective view into the lives of the artists, manifested through their medium(s). The artist statements are thoughtful, well written. As a curator, I am hesitant to pick out favorites but a few stood out. Anikó Boda with “Always Want Something Else” (shown here) is a stunning, beautiful, classical work — Boda is a master painter. “Thank you again to Renée for championing women in the arts and giving such a wonderful platform to showcase art! ~ Karen Gutfreund, artist and curator
What an incredible array of female talent across all media. Thank you Renee Phillips, this is such a beautiful and powerful exhibition “HerStory”. I am so honoured. Renee, ever since I have encountered your artistic wisdom, experience and positive guidance, I have really tried to execute the best quality, authenticity and depth with complete freedom as a female artist. I truly thank you for that, because I can see the progression and strength in my work within these past two years. ~ Denisa Prochazka
THANK YOU! I am honored to have been chosen! (for “HerStory”) Your validation is invaluable. It fuels my courage to keep showing up, to be authentic, to stay focused, and to do my best to be my best artist. The choice I made to do this work after many years in the corporate arena has been both challenging and rewarding. Sometimes I wonder why I keep going, but then something wonderful like this happens and clarity is restored. ~ B. Ellis

Tree, More Valuable than Gold, a mural in Bass Pro, Toledo, Ohio, 20 feet x 40 feet.
By painting the natural world at a large scale I wish to draw the viewer into a deeper state of peaceful contemplation, transporting him or her from present preoccupations to a calming and ultimately healing frame of mind. I research local environments and history to be better able to engage the audience, although sometimes I introduce unexpected features that are nevertheless compelling to the viewer. My background in both science and art have often overlapped, one informing the other. sitespecificmurals.com
Biruta received a Manhattan Arts International Outstanding Women Artist Achievement Award.

I am thrilled to be included among so many wonderful artists whose extraordinary vision is celebrated in “HerStory 2022.” I have been a juror for past exhibitions in the Boston area and I know how challenging it is to make selections from a wide range of styles and mediums to create a bold, cohesive body of work. And that is what you’ve done–this exhibition is stunning, and I’m honored to be a part of it. ~ Kathleen Trestka
Thank you so much Renee for the inclusion in the HerStory exhibition! I am so honored to be with such an amazingly talented group of incredible female artists. I love that you are helping to give female artists a voice since we have been so underrepresented in the art world. Margaret Meade, the social anthropologist said “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed, citizens can change the world…indeed it’s the only thing that ever has.”..and that is why I believe that people like you Renee will be instrumental in moving female art to the forefront and to it’s rightful place in the national and international art community. Thank you for your commitment and dedication. ~ Pamela Nigro

HerStory Exhibitions Are Presented Every Year
This edition of “Her Story” exemplifies the artists’ role with attention to mastery of craft in both capricious and contemplative subjects. The works in this exhibition demonstrate a deep sensitivity to the artists’ place in our modern world, where words must be spoken and images expressed. The language of the artists varies as much as the choice of medium and subject matter; whether it is confrontational, whimsical, or introspective, there is always a story beneath the surface. ~ James Campbell
I am so thrilled and honored to be included in the Herstory Exhibition. Such stunning and beautiful work here! And a pleasure to explore the worlds of other women artists. Thank you so much for your hard work in supporting women artists and for putting this wonderful show together. ~ Beth
What a show! I am speechless. I feel honored that I once again made it into my all time favorite exhibit. I have a confession here about the art by Anastasia R. Simes “Coronation”. Everything about that painting makes my heart sing. The Colors, the Composition, the Style and the Story. I remember seeing it on a FB post a while ago and I was mesmerized by it back then. I am not ashamed to say that it has brought me to tears. Beautiful work! I also am appreciating the work and the story by Nicolette Maguire Bonnstetter “I Will Love Her Forever”. So many outstanding artists I don’t know how you did it Renee. Thank you so much for bringing us this magnificent show. ~ Roopa Dudley
Stunning stunning stunning exhibition! Congrats to all the artists for bringing forth their personal visions and to the jurors who brought this beautiful show to fruition! Renee great selection of artists for “Herstory”! ~ Lisa Freidus
This is a beautiful and powerful exhibition. I am very honored and so excited to have been chosen among the many wonderful and accomplished artists that have applied to “HerStory 2022”. To be given a chance for my work to be seen by a wider audience than what I am able to reach at this point in my practice, is a dream come true. Thank you, Renée, for giving me and so many women artists a voice. ~ Caroline Royall
