Works of Art that Evoke Joie de Vivre
Lisa Freidus, lisafreidus.com, is an international artist who lives in Florida. She is proficient in different mediums and uses an unbridled source of innovation to create engaging, vibrant and fanciful art work. Her mediums range from watercolor and acrylic to 3-dimensional art in mixed media. Her positive philosophy shines through her art and she believes “Through humor, determination, and faith, we all have the ability to push through adversity.”
Lisa’s colorful works of art evoke joie de vivre and invite us to enter worlds of enchantment and child-like fantasy. She also imbues them with elements from Trompe l’Oeil art.

A Visit from the Past, acrylic, in the style of trompe l’oeil, 36″ x 48″. This painting embraces Lisa’s fascination with time travel.
Lisa was the 2019 recipient of the “Hearts for ACT” award at the Arts for ACT live auction gala for her loyal generosity in support of the vital mission of Abuse Counseling & Treatment. She states, “I believe in giving back for the many miracles we receive.”
Lisa’s art has been featured on the cover of Happenings magazine and she was spotlighted in Woman’s Day magazine in the article “Woman in Small Business”.
She has received many accolades including Awards of Excellence from Manhattan Art International. One of Lisa’s works of art was selected for “The Healing Power of Art Inspired by Nature” 2024 and “The Healing Power of Color” 2024 Invitational Exhibitions presented on The Healing Power of ART & ARTISTS website, an initiative of Manhattan Arts International.
There is Light in Your Darkness, 3-D mixed media, 24″ x 24″ x 2″. The canvas, flower, bird, and butterfly are hand-crafted from wood.
Lisa’s art is included in many private and corporate collections including Chico’s Corporate Office, Fort Myers, FL; the Middlesex Savings Bank, Sudbury, MA; St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Brighton, MA; and Bay State Medical Center (Chestnut Building) Springfield, MA. One of her numerous private collectors is Jim Maritan, the former VP of Strategy for Staples and Jill Jamieson, author and managing director of JLL.
About her art, Thomas Hall, Journalist for the Examiner in Fort Myers, Florida stated, “The world conjured through the prism of Lisa’s experience is loose, fluid and free-wheeling, a message she purposefully augments by refusing to pre-plan or structure her compositions. She paints in the moment, spontaneously, letting the work shape itself.”

Lisa explains, “It is my desire to offer a respite from the responsibilities of life by engaging the viewer through cheerful images in a whimsical style. I view Art as a healing vessel where its abilities to manifest change brings hope and harmony to those who patiently await.”
We discover in Lisa’s works of art a juxtaposition of natural elements and architectural structures arranged in a panoply of dream-like compositions. To create her dimensional artwork she not only uses paint but handcrafts objects in wood to simulate trees, chairs, buildings and gazebos and other items. Her works of art often incorporate the frame and extend beyond the parameters. Lisa also creates an illusion of different surfaces by using papyrus, wallpaper and rice paper. An example is “A Room to Dream” shown below.
Longing For a Day at the Beach, mixed media, 39″ x 48″ x 1.5″ created in the style of Trompe L’oeil. Lisa donated this painting to one of the Arts for Act live auctions.
About her creative process Lisa states, “When designing familiar scenes which embody early memories, I experience both an inner peace and a feeling of empowerment as 3-dimensional images rise from the surface of the canvas. The infusion of textured collage materials from Nepal, Thailand and Japan, along with handmade wood cutouts, imparts a unique interpretation to mainstream objects.”
The artist continues, “As an artist I am drawn to vibrant pigments, joyous images, and non-conventional ways to push the boundaries. My mother had a significant impact on my life and art career and her suggestions taught me to trust my own instincts and always strive for quality. The way I observe and design art was influenced by her creative mind and sense of style.”
About her mother she adds, “She was not an artist in the traditional sense, but had the gift to excite one’s imagination and I continue to feel her loving presence through the artistic process.”
