This exhibition, which featured 57 artists, ran from June 20, 2018 – August 20, 2018. It was an honor and privilege to present the Manhattan Arts International “HerStory” 2018 exhibition. It featured art by extraordinary women artists from around the world who contributed a range of subjects, styles, mediums, and sizes of art to reflect their far-reaching artistic competence and innovation. Manhattan Arts International has been presenting “HerStory” online exhibitions since 2000 and will continue to organize them annually until there is equality in the art world.

I am truly pleased to see those beautiful images and feel great to learn a little of the women artists who created them, although not being part of it, I am very thankful to Renee and all the participating women artists…

Renee-
This is a dynamic exhibition and I believe, your finest yet. I am humbled to be included. Having just come back from NYC and viewing “Like Life, Sculpture, Color and The Body” at THE mET and appreciating how the human form has been depicted over seven hundred years in so many mediums and forms, I drew a comparison to your keen eye choosing art from professional woman artists, with equal diversity in medium, methods and conceptions. You are gifted and appreciated. Congratulations.
Renee Phillips says
Dear Elaine,
Thank you for submitting your fantastic sculpture to “HerStory” and your kind words about my curatorial mindset. I have a specific purpose and love every challenging minute of the jurying and curating process. I often feel like a conductor of an orchestra — to refer to one of your sculptures 🙂 Every exhibition is like creating a symphony composed of many diverse individual creative expressions that come together in beautiful contrast, harmony and balance. I feel very blessed to have given myself this honor and responsibility.
Emily Strong says

Cathy Abramson says
Although this exhibit has a breadth of disciplines and range of subjects there is a purity and truthful exploration of the visions of each artist. Each work of art felt personal and came from the heart. Thank you for organizing this show and for creating a sorority of women artists.
Kathryn Rutherford says
There is such a great expanse of talent, creativity, and technical ability in the fine art chosen to hang in this exhibition that it is my privilege to have my painting, “Communing With Nature”, chosen to hang among such distinctive works of art. Thank you, Renee Phillips for presenting it with the Manhattan Arts International Second Place Award. I am greatly honoured to be given such recognition.

Renee, you have chosen a fascinating survey of artists (who happen to be women)
from every medium and subject source. One aspect of this variety I particularly respect is the number of sculptural works you’ve included; it seems that with each exhibition the numbers increase, either because more three D artists apply as the word gets around to them, or because you possess the awareness that
not all art is flat. One way or another, my own awareness of the sculptural hand has increased each time you show these pieces to us, and I thank you for polishing my own artistic eye.
Renee Phillips says
Dear Jane, Thank you for noticing. Yes, I was delighted this year to receive an increase in 3d artwork. It was a pleasure to serve as the sole juror and curator. I loved previewing all the art and reading the artists’ statements and visiting the entrants’ websites. With every competition I’m challenged to see more in all styles, mediums, and subjects. And, with HerStory, the opportunity to promote deserving women artists – how lucky I am!

A beautiful exhibit and am surprised and humbled to be a part of it. Courage is what it takes for us artists to bare our souls in our work for the world to see and that is what I see here in full display. Authenticity is definitely the name of the game here.
