Winner of the Manhattan Arts International Special Recognition Art Award
It is an honor to present Annie Shaver-Crandell, annieshavercrandell.com, with the Manhattan Arts International Special Recognition Art Award. She was selected from “The Healing Power of ART: Resilience 2022” exhibition presented by The Healing Power of ART & ARTISTS online gallery platform, which is an initiative of Manhattan Arts International. Annie received this much deserved accolade for her superior art work with an expansive portfolio that demonstrates a range of skills and her many art career accomplishments. Furthermore, these attributes are matched by her unbridled enthusiasm and tireless support that she extends to other artists.
Annie lives and maintains a studio in Manhattan’s NoHo district where she also teaches art.

In addition to being a prolific and proficient artist in several different mediums, Annie has also been an advocate to further the status of women in the visual arts professions. She served as National President of the Women’s Caucus for Art from 1986 to 1988 and has been a long time member of this organization. She is also a member of the National Association of Women Artists and the College Art Association of America and is an active member of the Salmagundi Club of New York for which she served on its Board of Directors for 10 years.

Shown here are a few paintings from Annie’s “Landscape Collection”. She often paints en plein air and excels in capturing the inherent qualities and atmosphere of her local environment which includes the parks and community gardens of Manhattan. She also paints scenes from her travels such as the American Rockies, the Delaware River, the north shore of Long Island, the Provence region of France, and Italy.
A unique distinction about Annie’s art is her attraction to boundaries. You will often discover as a focal point in her paintings a garden wall, the water’s edge, the place where the cultivated field, pasture, vineyard or orchard that gives way to the woods or hills. She provides viewers with fascinating vantage points that lead us into her enchanting nature-inspired scenes and city views.
Whatever subject she chooses we observe her impeccable brushwork, choice of colors, and the manner in which she captures light and shadow that all enhance the positive mood and often bring a sense of drama.

In addition to the Manhattan Arts International Special Recognition Art Award, Annie’s numerous awards include the Jane Impastato Award, Salmagundi Club Annual Summer Exhibition, SCNY, New York and Mortimer E. Freehof Memorial Award for Watercolor, Fall Auction exhibition, SCNY, New York, among others.
Annie’s artwork was selected for Manhattan Arts International’s “HerStory 2022” exhibition. She was also curated into “The Healing Power of Color 2022” exhibition and “The Healing Power of ART In Honor of Nature Exhibition”, both presented by The Healing Power of ART & ARTISTS online gallery.
Her upcoming exhibitions in 2022 include the “133rd Annual NAWA Members Exhibition” presented by the National Association of Women Artists – One Art Space, New York, NY, and “The SCNY Pastels Showcase” exhibition at Salmagundi Club of New York, New York, NY.

Annie earned academic degrees in art history from Oberlin College (BA), the Institute of Fine Arts of New York University (MA) and Columbia University (PhD). She is an internationally published medieval art historian and Professor Emeritus from The City College of New York. She taught the history of art for over three decades.
