“Creating art, for me, is a mystical process, a spiritual work, and an exercise of creativity. I am drawn to the mystery that is implicit in the natural world. When I paint it is if the veil of the common life is momentarily lifted allowing me to be embraced by the underlying essence of the universe. I consider my artistic expression a gift to be shared.” ~ Peter N. Van Giesen

What aspects of your creativity bring you a sense of peace and fulfillment?
Peace and Serenity are my heartbeat. My inner world revolves around the axis of calm even in the middle of a storm. The mantras of “this too shall pass” and “keep proceeding forward” help me with persevering. Capturing beauty drives my creativity with the goddess of the gentle breeze being my muse. Exercising creativity is exercising love and a demonstration of my understanding of the interconnected nature of who we are. I am not a part of a whole but the entire wholeness of the universe in miniature.

What advice can you offer to us to remain hopeful about the art world especially during challenging times of social and economic instability?
Storms and economic instability do end, art remains. Success will come to those prepared ahead of time. Keep proceeding and make the best art possible. Take a step away if necessary to earn other income. Let your creativity flow no matter what. Encourage yourself by encouraging people around you.
