Purple Sky, oil and cold wax, 14″ x 14″
Mary explains, “I find magic in its mountains and skies painted with highly saturated hues. This sacred place calls to my soul and opens a space for my art to be a true reflection of my free spirit and enthusiasm for life.”
Collecting Native American art is a passion of hers. She states, “My home looks like it could be a gallery on Canyon Road in Santa Fe, a place very dear to my heart. We’ve traveled there many times and I’m always trying to find my way back.”
Guiding Path, oil and cold wax, 16″ x 16″
Using an intuitive process, Mary develops each piece through a layering process which results in paintings with extraordinary depth and diverse surface features. She achieves a rich, vibrant tapestry of color and texture through her inimitable methods of combining acrylic and oil pastel with gel mediums on canvas and wood. The artist also enjoys creating abstracted landscapes in oils.
Meadow Wildflowers, acrylic, 14″ x 14″
Mary’s artwork is collected internationally. She has had many exhibitions that include one-woman shows at the Highlands Museum of the Arts (MoTA), the historic Rialto Theatre, and TECO Public Art Gallery. Her many group exhibitions include the Scarfone-Hartley Gallery at the University of Tampa and the Tampa Museum of Art, among others.
She is represented by Hat Ranch Gallery in Santa Fe, New Mexico and Dwell Home in Tampa, Florida.
In September, 2022, Mary was featured in an interview with Voyage Tampa Magazine.
Blue Hydrangea, acrylic, 14″ x 14″
Mary received an Award of Excellence in The Healing Power of ART & ARTISTS “The Spirit of Resilience” juried exhibition in 2020. She wrote, “I create art from a place of joy; and finding joy has been challenging this year. Art is needed now more than ever. Artists are resilient, and the act of creating is one of the most important ways we can express an idea, emotion or value to a worldwide audience.”
Messages From the Past, oil and cold wax, 16″ x 16″
Her art was also selected for the “HerStory” 2019 exhibition and she won an Award of Excellence in “The Healing Power of ART” 2019 exhibition — both presented by the Manhattan Arts International.
Mary became a full-time artist at age 55 and states, “I like to think that age has not only shown me wisdom, but also given me a fearless outlook on life. Becoming an artist as my ‘second act’ I’ve learned not to be afraid of taking chances or going after what I want. I am on this magical journey to create the best art I possibly can.”
She exudes, “I paint what inspires me, makes me laugh and brings me joy. You’ll see flowers, landscapes and abstracts in my gallery. My paintings are an exploration of colors, shapes, textures and tools. I allow the images to unfold and evolve as I paint.”
