Artist Profile

"There is an indefinable space between dream and reality, a world in itself. My images are like tableaux, that could also be fragments of a story."

Tone Aanderaa was born in Bergen, Norway. In 1983 she went to study in America and returned six years later, with a BFA, and an MFA, from Pratt Institute, New York. After returning to Norway, she settled at her family place by the beautiful Hardanger fjord – where she lived and worked for more than twenty years painting, writing, and collaborating.

In addition to her personal artistic projects, Tone established an art school and in collaboration with all the artists in the region, she established 'Harding Puls' – a forum for 'Artists of All Expressions' (www.hardingpuls.no).

Tone Aanderaa also writes poetry and stories including 'Det store puslespillet' ('The Big Puzzle'), a Fantasy novel exploring the mysterious mythological era (with a special love of the the art historical point of view), which was published in 2004, Eide Forlag, Bergen, Norway.

During the last ten years Tone has also been working in the digital media. In collaboration with animators, her paintings have been animated (Animation being her second love). They have been Flash-animated on the Internet and 'traditionally' on DVD. For information see Secret Garden's website www.secretgarden.

Tone is one of the winners of Best in Painting in The Healing Power of Art juried exhibition on view here.
