Susan Titus is a native of California, who grew up with a deep appreciation for the striking beauty and surprising variety of colors in the natural landscape. Her mother, Vivian Cook, a well established oil painter, influenced Susan at a young age. She has memories of painting together all of her early life. As a young adult, she studied art in college. When she later moved to New York City, an appreciation for the urban landscape was awakened.
Working primarily in watercolor on paper and canvas, the artist states: “The primary intent of my work is to capture memories: I believe in art as a souvenir of potent life experiences.” This impetus behind her art results in having numerous collectors of her work worldwide. The very fluid and spontaneous nature of watercolor seems an appropriate medium of choice for Susan as she seems to have an effortless, fresh, and immediate rapport with her surroundings. In all of her paintings a sense of harmony prevails.
She has had numerous group exhibitions including those at the Monterey Art Museum and has been showing her work steadily at Gallery at 417 in Monterey since 2005.
Susan won a Best in Painting Award in the Manhattan Arts International Healing Power of Art 2007 juried exhibition. The artist understands the importance of art as a healing force, having been working as a psychiatric nurse. She was also the recipient of an Award of Excellence in Manhattan Arts International’s 24 th Anniversary competition.
