Artist Profile

Working primarily in oils, Texas based artist Leslie Sealey creates dramatic, design-focused paintings. Her subject matter is varied, but she has a particular affinity for cityscapes and transportation themes. Manmade structures such as overpasses, roads and bridges lend themselves to her unique and modern design sensibility. The artist states, “One of my goals in painting is to create a bridge between realism and abstraction.” Her urban landscapes are one of the realizations of that goal.

Sealey has exhibited her paintings in many one-person and group exhibitions across the U.S. including a solo exhibition at the Wally Workman Gallery in Austin, Texas. Her work is represented in numerous public and private collections, including those of First Financial Bank of Texas and the collection of an Emmy-award winning writer from New York. In October, 2007, one of her cityscape paintings was featured in a national art publication, Southwest Art Magazine.

The artist received her BFA from the University of Arizona, a school noted for its outstanding photography program, and her successful art career began with an interest in architectural photography. Her move to painting stemmed from a need to find an even more expressive outlet for her creative vision.

A multi-talented and active artist, Sealey also served as a juror and an exhibition committee member coordinating museum exhibitions, in addition to teaching photography on a university level.

Praise for Leslie Sealey

“...Sealey’s personal stamp could be mistaken as depictions of the impersonal; her figureless portraits of cities, however, pack plenty of feeling.”
Devon Jackson, writer, Southwest Art Magazine

“Ordinary urban scenes and household objects get transformed into striking abstractions in oil paint by artist Leslie Sealey.”
Jean Claire van Ryzin, the Austin American-Statesman

“Her grasp of today’s art world is strong and confident, fresh and unique.”
Janice Horak, Director, Tarleton State University’s Dora Lee Langdon Cultural &
