Kathleen King is a Chicago based artist, exhibiting her work in NYC and Chicago. Her works are in several private and public collections in the U.S. and internationally.
She will be teaching two classes -- drawing and watercolor -- at Korea University in Seoul
as a visiting adjunct professor this summer 2008 in the International Summer Campus Program. She is also on the board of the Skopelos Art Foundation in Greece
and has held workshops as a visiting artist there.
The artist’s obsessive and hypnotic multi layers of mixed media, whether on canvas or on paper, suggest the passage of time and movement, allowing the evocative compositions to unfold before the viewer’s eye, leaving a visual poetic impression similar to a perfume scent permeating the olfactory senses.
King's recent one-person exhibitions in New York City
include: “Illumatoons”; and “Plastic Pictorials” both
at Viridian Artists, INC.
Group shows in NYC include: SoHo20;“Detritus"
at Synagogue for the Arts; and “Invitational Summer Show”

Her one-person exhibitions in Chicago and Midwest include: ”Hypnotic”, Steeple Gallery, St. John, IN; ”Natural Fictions”,

Praise for Kathleen King
“The show title (“Illumatoons”) a composite of illuminate (as in Blake’s illuminated poems) and cartoon (as in Crumb’s Zap Comix) aptly describes the combination of the seductively resplendent and funkily fanciful that King achieves in her new work…”
Ed McCormack, Gallery & Studio magazine, NYC
“Kathleen King distills from a deep imagination and an exhaustive artistic process. Using monotype combined with collage, acrylic transfers and computer generated
backgrounds this Chicago based artist produces lush surfaces that tackle the eye and refuses its release."
Bradley Newman, Art Papers
“The notion of the experiment lends power to these works, because King is in effect undergoing a somewhat scientific enterprise. Each painting, each creative effort, is an attempt to see and understand; as viewers move from work to work, they gain appreciation for King’s artistic goals.”
Gregg Hertzlieb, Director/Curator, Brauer Museum of Art
