Artist Profile

In the early 1980's, Kaniecki found himself appalled by nuclear proliferation, war, pollution, gluttony, hypocrisy, and run-amuck religiosity. Understanding the threat that these issues poised against freedom, democracy, and the planet he reacts through the creation of art.

The mainly "self taught" artist/outsider, has stated that his work is influenced and purposely designed around what he describes as, "a 'heterogeneous assemblage' of assorted artistic ideologies and discordant processes," absorbing and utilizing such schools as surrealism, dada, pop, and abstract expressionism. Kaniecki draws from disparate global influences of incunabulum. Moreover, his art is profoundly influenced by Chicano, Asian, and European styles of painting and drawing, with a hint of the avant garde; all while supporting a bent insofar as depicting social and political anxieties.

The artist's work is often diffuse with subliminal images of animals, the grotesque and sexual metaphors. He believes that manipulating figurative images and compiling them into heteromorphic entities allows the brain of the viewer to more rapidly educe and excogitate the imagery and messages.

Gene Kaniecki has been the recipient or numerous awards and the subject of many articles. In addition, he has exhibited his work in New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania. His current assemblage of work is entitled "Psychological Machines: Art of the American Middle Class."
