Artist Profile
In his drawings, etchings and paintings, Freiman Stoltzfus explores ideas of transcendence. Using sacred geometry and architectural line, he creates ordered landscapes that are bound neither by time nor space. His sources of inspiration include gothic architecture and traditional quilt motifs from his Pennsylvania Amish heritage. The distinctive blending of color, form and texture creates freedom within order; a compelling dialogue between nature and humanity, abstraction and realism, between darkness and light.
While living in Italy and France, Freiman studied language, music, art, and spent much time in the great museums and churches that have influenced his work.
He has illustrated and published four books and designed posters for the Sylvan Opera Company of Philadelphia. His work is in private and corporate collections in the United States and abroad. His first international exhibit was held in 2007 at the Lenkerhof in Lenk, Switzerland. Freiman is the recipient of “Best in Works on Paper” in Manhattan Arts International’s “Healing Power of Art 2007” juried competition.
In 2008, Freiman created and conducted a creative workshop for adults at Rancho La Puerta, a celebrated spa/resort in Mexico. He is a member of the Art Student’s League of New York and the Oratorio Society of New York. He lives in New York City.
