Bonny Leibowitz was born January 1958 in Philadelphia, PA. She attended Temple University's Tyler College of Art in PA. Her paintings express an interconnectedness of life’s experiences, a soulful presence and an evolution into the deepening spiritual self. Thought-provoking forms express life’s seamless organic totality. There is a sense of connection to that which is most meaningful in our lives and an awareness of our place in the universe. The world these figures live in becomes increasingly abstract and increasingly real. The work draws us in and speaks to our very existence.
Bonny's one-person exhibition "Permanent States of Transition" will take place at Norwood Flynn Gallery, November
30-December 28. The opening reception is
November 30th, 6:00-9:00 pm. The Norwood
Flynn Gallery is located at 3318 Shorecrest
Drive, Dallas, Texas. Tel: 214-351-3318. She has had many one-person and group exhibitions throughout the U.S. including those at the Houshang Gallery in Santa Fe, NM and Adaggio Gallery in Palm Springs, CA. Her exhibition "Flesh, An Exhibition of Paintings Revealing the Soul", took place at Norwood Flynn Gallery and was accompanied by a published catalogue.
She has been involved internationally with the Jewish Federation's
Partnership Yitzhak project. This project took her and her work to Israel in June of
2005 the result of which recognized her as an Israel Bonds honoree. Her painting
Eternal Yitzhak was acquired by The Jewish Federation of Northwest
Indiana.
Leibowitz’s work has been the subject of national publications and is in numerous national private and corporate collections including Theresa Haddock Interiors
and Renaissance Inc. She is an inductee of the prestigious National Association of Women Artists in New York, NY.
The artist says of her new body of work: "This body of work deals
with the essence of our existence. Thrust
into this world, each; a unique being
impacting and reshaping one another
consequently transforming biological,
spiritual and cosmic realms."
Praise for Bonny Leibowitz
"Bonny Leibowitz's latest works bridge the traditions of the figurative works of the quatro and cinque centisti of Italy transcending directly into the current century. On canvas after canvas and drawing after drawing her undulating forms and confident touch invite you into a space and a place which pulls you in at the same time it pushes you out. On the fore you have the sensual physicality of the figure surging from the background only to merge back into a surreal space which is totally unknown. But do know; these great works are happening here, whereever that here might be."
Michael Mentler, Founder, The Society of Figurative Arts
"Bonny Leibowitz’s work gracefully fuses human form and nature to provide a sense of rapture, harmony and completeness. Some of her highly rhythmic pieces of the female form call to mind the Whirling Dervishes. Dervish literally means "doorway" and is thought to be an entrance from this material world to the spiritual heavenly world. Her paintings serve as doorways to transformation and healing. They call upon the muse in all of us to take the journey of self-discovery."
Renée Phillips, Director, Manhattan Arts International, author, and member of the International Association of Art Critics
"It occurs to me that seeing Bonny's work is like seeing into her soul. It's hard to separate Bonny from her art. As I watch the work evolve, and get to know Bonny, I discover the spirituality in both. Each time, I see something I didn't see before -- I experience the piece a little differently. Sure it's beautiful, but it's deeper than that, it's something to connect with. It soothes the soul. With Bonny, to see the work, is to know the artist. In sharing her talent with us, she brings beauty and meaning into our lives."
